Nature's Pantry

It was a cool 35 degree morning but a good number of folks came out on the bikes Saturday at 8:00 to gather and Ride over to Nature’s Pantry for hot pancakes, eggs and sausage. We arrived at 8:45 to find a good number of Rachel House supporters already there enjoying their breakfast. The Blue Springs bikes came in as we were parking and visiting with good friends. I counted 11 bikes and 22 of our group there to support the Rachel House Pregnancy Resource Ministry.

Nature’s Pantry provided and cooked up a filling and healthy breakfast, while Rachel House Staff and Volunteers shared information about their ministry to our communities across the city. Mary McKena with KFKF 94.1 fm was there broadcasting Live from inside the store. She had give away CD’s and Tickets all helping add to the festivities and to promote this Annual event.

Nature’s Pantry is a tremendous partner and friend to the Rachel House ministry and matched the donations given to Rachel House on Saturday, dollar for dollar. I was pleased that we were able to join in with a good number of folks again this year as we continue our support of the Rachel House Pregnancy Resource
Centers, our group’s chosen mission project.

Thanks to all and we’ll see you all there next year for sure.

Pineapple Sundae Ride

I hope like many of us you were able to enjoy an absolutely gorgeous evening to get out and Ride. Twenty one Rode-In at 6:00 pm for our Word on Wheels gathering (95% on their bikes) this Saturday night. Jim says they “Turned to the Dark Side” as we all got a look at their new Harley Davidson Road King.

After a short time of praise and worship, and study, we were on the bikes just before 7:00 pm for a great Ride-Out to Hi-Boy Drive-In restaurant on River Rd. and 24 Hwy, Independence. Our route was in true Fix-it Frank style as we meandered through the twisty turns on the roads less traveled. What a good looking group as we snaked through Lee’s summit, Independence, Sugar Creek and back into Independence. Some were going for the greasy burgers and and onion rings, while others could only think about the ice cream.

Larry, we had a great ride up from Lee’s Summit and the food and atmosphere were perfect. We’ll be back and the next time it will be for ‘The Onion Ring Roundup Ride’. : Rachel House Pancake Breakfast

Nature’s Pantry will again this year sponsor a pancake breakfast on Saturday Oct. 24, 2009 to benefit the Rachel House Pregnancy Resource Centers. The Motorcycle Fellowship will meet at 8:00 am (2 NE Douglas St, Lee’s Summit) to ride over as a group or you can just meet us there around 8:45. The weather will be cool but dry, so come on out and Ride with us.

All monies raised will be matched by Nature’s Pantry and donated to the Rachel House Pregnavcy Resource Centers located in Blue Springs, in the Northland and in Lee’s Summit.

After breakfast we’ll Ride out for a short Autumn Ride to see the beautiful trees in the area. It will be a wonderful morning as we continue to support the Rachel House ministy.

Come join us on April 11, 2009 at Bikes 2 Trikes of KC for their Open House & FREE B-B-Q. The Word on Wheels of Kansas City will be there to let folks know about our Ride for Rachel House benefit motorcycle event coming up in June. Come and Advance Register for our Ride at that time.

”We Ride So Others May Live”

The End of May is Heating Up

To All,

The end of May is heating up with activities and so are the temperatures. Last Sunday was a great day to get out and Ride so we did. Eight bikes and eleven of us hopped from town to town sampling the “All Menu, All Day” foods and drinks of the best All American fast food restaurant chain.

Yes, we stopped in at four Sonic Drive-Ins and drove by four or five more, depending how you rode home to your house afterward. We were in Lee’s Summit, Pleasant Hill, Warrensburg and Lexington with many towns in between. We discovered that drinks are half priced from 2-4pm everyday and any left over Cheddar Bites are not long for this world.

We also met some really nice folks at each stop and spread the word about our Ride coming up here in just one month. This weekend we will be doing Rider Registration starting on Friday night at Blue Springs Harley-Davidson. Jim and Mary will be heading this one up, so come on out and get registered. While you’re there it would be a great time to do some shopping for that H-D stuff you need for the riding season.

This Saturday is another early Rider Registration day at both Freedom Cycles and Advantage PowerSports. Bring those 20% Rebate cards and get some bike stuff, cheap.

Registering and cooking hot dogs in Grandview at Freedom Cycles from 11:00am till 2:00pm with John, Moe and Mike doing the cooking while Kathy and Kim will be busy signing up more Riders.

Donna and I will be up North at Advantage PowerSports during the same time to get more Riders signed up for the 2008 Ride for Rachel House.

If you can help out at any of these three locations this weekend come and join in on the activities. This is how we get to meet people, talk and share our passion for bikes and our love for Jesus Christ.

Remember then at 6:00pm on Saturday night is the Word on Wheels. Come early and get signed up for the Ride and be a part of our time of praise and worship as we gather in fellowship. This motorcycle outreach ministry is open to all so come and meet some folks that ”… ride so others may live”. Ride in and enjoy the great springtime evening then join us all for a bite to eat afterwards (no Sonic, I promise).

This Sunday is our ride down to Pleasant Hill for the Muscle up for Freedom Bike Run and Car Show. Location is Pleasant Hill First Baptist 125 N. Armstrong. Some will be going down early for services with the fundraiser lunch and bike ride following to honor and support our men and women serving in our nations military. Old Cedar Inn Report / Biker Sunday (HOGF)

Ride Report – Saturday April 19 & Sunday April 20

As the afternoon warmed up from the day’s cool start, many bikes were enjoying maybe the first ride of spring. Our dinner Ride Out to Old Cedar Inn in Garden City, Missouri began with one Yamaha, two Hondas and three Harleys. Another Harley met up with us at the restaurant for a nice meal and great conversations. The service was friendly, the ribs were delicious, and the prices were small hometown good. (Largest order of curly fries in the State)

A ride out after dinner further east through Blairstown and beyond, wasted none of the beautiful sunset skies. What a wonderful evening to be out on bikes with friends. We’ll be looking for the next great little place to ride out to and have dinner with you.

Sunday morning found us on our bikes again, this time heading toward the Heart of God Fellowship for Biker Sunday. Riding into Sibley, we were not alone as hundreds of others rode in for the 12th annual event. Pastor Bob Kaps message was direct and clear, with the church Praise and Worship team joined by Blues-57 sharing the Gospel through music. With lunch and a bike blessing, we were off to enjoy the best Sunday ride day in months.

If you missed out on the great rides and fellowship events so far, don’t worry we are going to go riding again real soon. This Saturday night is our second Word on Wheels gathering this month so don’t miss out. We meet at 6:00 pm and some even ride their bikes in. Come early if you can and register yourself for the Ride for Rachel House and get your event T-shirt too. We will as always be heading out afterwards for a bite to eat.

First Weekend In April Is A Busy One

I hope you were all able to enjoy the weather this past weekend and get out and do some riding.

The Word on Wheels was represented well Saturday at Advantage PowerSports as we promoted our Ride for Rachel House and helped our ride sponsor cook some hot dogs for their customers. Donna was set up inside serving lunch on the tailgate of a big red Rhino 4-wheeler. John, Jim and Jerry gathered around the grill out back of the service area and cooked 90 hot dogs. Greg, Moe and I enjoyed watching the others work as we chose to visit with the many customers in and out of the store.

As we passed out ride cards and food, many who came had a story to share of bikes, family , friends and life. Donna met one girl who had a friend who went to Rachel House for a pregnancy test, and also a man whose wife just had a baby. Both indicated their desire to support Rachel House by participating in our ride with us on June 22.

With this being our only scheduled hot dog cooking date for this month, put May 10th and 24th on your calendar for next month as we will be doing Ride for Rachel House Registration on both of these days.

The Word on Wheels time of fellowship began early on Saturday as we gathered at Denny’s for breakfast after a cool ride into Kansas City. To our surprise Bob rode in to join us for breakfast as we were parking the bikes and waiting for any others to arrive. Our “restaurant ministry” is alive and well as are given opportunities to visit with others there.

It was a great afternoon to get out and ride, so after finishing up a little early cooking hot dogs we rode over to shop for stuff at Motorcycle Connections. Our group left there and headed south on I-435. Some continued south on US 71 and went on down to Gail-A-Palooza to join in on the food and music and met up with Mike and Kim there.

This week was a also very busy for those of us who participate and ride with the Patriot Guard Riders as we honored Sgt. John Young of Lee’s Summit for his service to our country. There was an escort from KCI on Monday evening and Flag Line at Langsford here in Lee’s Summit. Then Flag Line, Visitation and Escort to the grave side service with full military honors on Friday morning and afternoon.

Then on a very early Sunday morning Send-Off for the MONG 325th QM BN, we rode with 30 bike and 5 cages on the 44 mile escort mission from Belton to KCI.

Be sure to ask Donna, Jerry, Moe, Nate, Jim or myself about these PGR mission experiences and what to do if you are wanting to get involved by Honoring our soldiers through this organization.

On Friday afternoon a small group of us rode the Ride for Rachel House route starting out from the Rachel House office in Lee’s Summit. The basic route is pretty much set but we may want to tweak it some to avoid possible traffic and traffic lights. It wasn’t all business as we managed to make a stop for some Zarda Bar-B-Que in Blue Springs. South on 131 into Holden, Jake opted for the highway bugs in the face for dessert as the rest of us chose to shield ourselves from those crunchy delicacies.

Again, I hope you too were able to get out and ride some. Make plans to gather with us this coming Saturday, April 12 @ 6:00pm as The Word on Wheels of Kansas City meets.
